In legal matters, union members rely on expert advice. And to help find lawyers who can answer their personal legal questions, members can consult the Union Plus Legal Service.
Need a lawyer? Lawyers in the legal panel have expertise in:

The Union Plus Legal Service helps:
- Make legal services more accessible and affordable to union members and their families.
- Simplify the search for legal advice for working families.
- Encourage the use of preventive law-get advice before a legal question becomes a legal problem.
Legal aid services you can trust
- Selective. Union Plus Legal Service lawyers are carefully selected to make sure members receive the best services available.
- Labor-friendly. Many of the panel of attorneys serving the program have been selected from lists of lawyers involved in the union movement and those involved with similar group legal services programs. All are screened for being labor friendly.
- Experienced. The attorneys on the panel are carefully screened and have an average of 14 years of experience in active private practice.
Your input
Union members who use the service are asked to evaluate the lawyer and the service provided, then Union Privilege follows up on any complaints.

It's confidential.
All matters are handled between you and your lawyer on a strictly confidential basis. Only your lawyer will know you are using the service.

Legal service features
Free lawyer consultation and review
No enrollment forms or fees are required. Union members are automatically enrolled and receive the following benefits for each separate legal matter:
- Free initial consultation - up to 30 minutes with a lawyer (in person or over the phone).
- Free simple document review and explanation. Members can avoid mistakes by understanding what they sign. Members are provided with an oral interpretation of such personal documents as leases, insurance policies and installment sales contracts. (NOTE: This benefit does not include real estate matters.)
- Free follow-up services, including a simple letter or phone call, if likely to resolve a legal matter.
- Most additional services are discounted by 30% - including attorney's hourly rates and flat fees for most common legal cases. The discount does not apply to matters involving a member's ownership or operation of a business and does not cover matters involving union-related organizations or officials.
- Written fee agreement-The participating lawyer will provide an agreement on fees, protecting the member and preventing any surprises.

Each participating lawyer in the Union Plus Legal Service must:
- Be interested in serving union members,
- Agree to provide all program benefits (both free and discounted),
- Agree to provide written fee agreements to all program participants,
- Keep each union member fully informed about the status of his or her case and
- Abide by the administrative responsibilities of participation.

The Union Plus Legal Service is available in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Who is eligible?
- All dues-paying labor union members
- Union member retirees
- Union member spouses and dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations)

- Union Plus Legal Service customer service is available at 1-888-993-8886 (9-7 ET, M-F). All calls are answered in the U.S.
- Find a lawyer online and after selecting a lawyer, use the online tool to notify that lawyer by email of your intent to contact their office; you can even briefly describe your legal issue.
