Assistance for Union Members Impacted by Recent Storms, Flooding & Wildfires

Union Plus program participants may qualify for grants

Union members living in areas impacted by the severe storms, tornadoes, flooding and wildfires, who participate in Union Plus programs may be eligible for financial assistance. 

Union Plus Disaster Relief Grants of $500 are available to help participants in the Union Plus Credit Card, Insurance or Mortgage programs who are facing financial hardship due to the recent severe weather. The money does not have to be repaid.

To qualify for a Union Plus Disaster Relief Grant, the union member must:

  1. Have been a victim of the severe weather in counties designated by FEMA as qualifying for individual assistance. (See the list below of qualifying counties.)
  2. Have experienced a significant loss of income or property within the last six months due to the disaster.
  3. Have had a Union Plus Credit Card, Union Plus Insurance policy or Union Plus Mortgage for at least 12 months with the account or policy in good standing (be up-to-date on payments).
  4. Describe his or her circumstances and document the income or property loss.

To apply for a disaster relief grant, union members who participate in any of the following programs can call:

  • Union Plus Credit Card: 1-877-761-5028
  • Union Plus Mortgage: 1-800-472-2005
  • Union Plus Insurance: 1-800-472-2005

Union Plus Mortgage holders may also be eligible to receive payment extensions or other special help.

Missouri: April 19, 2011 to June 6, 2011 and June 1 to August 1, 2011

Montana: April 4, 2011 to July 22, 2011

Nebraska: May 24, 2011 to August 1, 2011

New York: September 7, 2011 and continuing

North Carolina: April 16, 2011

North Dakota: February 14, 2011 to July 20, 2011

Oklahoma: April 14, 2011 and May 22, 2011 to May 25, 2011

Pennsylvania: September 3, 2011 and continuing

South Dakota: March 11, 2011 to July 22, 2011

Tennessee: April 19, 2011 to June 7, 2011 and April 25, 2011 to April 28, 2011

Texas: August 30, 2011 and continuing

Vermont: April 23, 2011 to May 9, 2011 and May 26, 2011 to May 27, 2011

Qualifying disaster areas are determined by FEMA.

    Help if you don’t know your union

    Your union membership dictates which Union Plus benefits you are eligible to use.

    1. What your national union’s name (not just your local number)? Scroll through the list we have to see if you recognize your union.
    2. What type of work do you do (select your occupation)?
    3. Do you have a union member card or union publication/letter that shows the name of your union? Find something with the name of your union, not just a local number.
    4. Is there a shop steward or work colleague you can ask what the name of your union is? You can even ask your human resources department to tell you the full name of your union?
    5. Do you have a Union Plus Credit Card? If so, the name and logo for your international union should appear on the front of the card.
