At the time of purchase, simply present your Union Plus Prescription Card at a participating pharmacy to instantly receive significant discounts on prescription drugs. Participating pharmacies include Rite Aid, Safeway and many more.

Or use your prescription card member ID to sign up for mail-order service from your insurance plan so that could help you save even more.

Who will find the Union Plus Prescription Discount Card helpful?

THIS PRESCRIPTION DISCOUNT CARD PROGRAM IS NOT INSURANCE. The prescription card can sometimes help reduce out-of-pocket costs, but it is not a replacement for a prescription drug insurance program.

The prescription card could help you save if:

  • You are a union member or retiree with no insurance that includes prescriptions.
  • You have seasonal or part-time work and lack complete, year-round insurance.
  • You are a union member or retiree with prescription insurance, but you need medications not included in your plan - e.g. smoking cessation drugs, impotency drugs, etc.
  • You are a union member or retiree who has any family members â€" including spouses, parents and children (of any age) â€" who do not have insurance that includes prescriptions. The family members do not need to be union members.

FAQs

How can pharmacies be added to the network?

Providers interested in participating in the Union Plus Prescription Card list of participating pharmacies should contact 1-877-570-4845. The application and credentialing process takes 6-12 weeks before a pharmacy can be added to the network.

What about dollar limits?

There are no limits on the dollar amounts or number of prescriptions you can purchase.

How can I find out the cost of my prescription before I have it filled?

You may call 1-877-570-4845 for an approximate discounted cost for your prescriptions. The cost may vary slightly from pharmacy to pharmacy.

You can also use this drug pricing tool on the Careington site â€" click the top tab for "Pharmacy Locator/Drug Pricing."

I take so many prescriptions; I'm concerned about possible drug interactions. Will the program let me know if I have prescriptions that may interact with each other?

Yes, this is done automatically. When a prescription is entered in your Union Plus Prescription Card account, the computer tracks it for known interactions with other medicines you have purchased through the program, even if you purchased them from different pharmacies or through the Mail-Order Pharmacy service.

Please be sure to tell your doctor about reactions or allergies you may have to certain drugs. Also, read the literature that accompanies your medicine to find out about possible side effects.

Will this program cover my prescriptions for pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, everyone is accepted. Union Plus Prescription Card includes prescriptions. Note that this program is not insurance.

I have insurance, so why do I need this program?

The Union Plus Prescription Card provides low-cost prescription drugs to those who may lack "complete insurance". The program can help meet the gaps for Medicare recipients or those with inadequate employer programs. Also, your insurance may not cover some special medications that are included in the Union Plus prescription discounts â€" e.g. smoking cessation drugs, etc.

If I have other health insurance, will the Union Plus Prescription Card work in coordination with my other coverage?

It may work with your health care plan. There is no limit on use and can make your dollars go further. In general, the Union Plus Prescription Card provides savings on selected services and IS NOT USED in CONJUNCTION with major medical plans that provide programs for similar products and services. The program helps those who may lack "complete insurance".

I don't see any information about my health care plan. Help!

The Union Plus Prescription Card is available to union members, but you probably have other health insurance through your employer and/or union-negotiated contract. For more information, contact your employer's human resources department and/or your local or international union. Try visiting the AFL-CIO Web site to find your union's contact information.

What is the Medicare Part D program?

If you have questions about the Medicare Part D prescription drug insurance program â€" which is NOT a Union Plus program â€" you should contact www.medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

Also see the Careington International site FAQ. Careington is the provider of the Union Plus Prescription Card.

I am in between insurances, and I was desperate for a way to get my migraine medication without breaking the bank. This card made the price go from $80 to $15. I can't recommend it enough!
