Getting Started with Union Plus Benefits for Union Leaders

Union Plus benefits offer to labor union members:

  • Union member protection: All Union Plus programs are researched and monitored by staff and overseen by a volunteer board of top union officials.
  • Labor collective strength: Leveraging the collective buying power of millions of union members, Union Privilege negotiates benefits for union families and advocates on behalf of union members for customer service.
  • Labor support and philanthropy — including scholarships, hardship grants, disaster relief, and donations that support working families’ interests.
  • Union member value and exclusives — including strike, disability and lay-off assistance not available in the traditional marketplace.

Learn more about the Union Plus background here.

Union Privilege is a not-for-profit organization created by the AFL-CIO to offer consumer Union Plus benefits to retired and active union members and their families.

Union Plus is the trusted brand name that over 3 million union members rely upon for consumer-related benefits. We are the only benefits organization endorsed by the AFL-CIO and its over 60 international unions.

Union members like tangible benefits from their unions. Labor unions have a long “benefit-providing” tradition and the Union Plus programs supplement your union’s efforts by augmenting “benefit societies” for union members. Union Plus services help your members save time and money when they are off the job and at home. Watch a short Union Plus 101 presentation here.

How your union can benefit:

The Union Plus programs offer your union members money-saving benefits coupled with the reassurance that the union is looking out for members’ welfare — both on and off the job.

So whether your union is trying to organize new members, add more members in an open shop or keep members from leaving the union, the Union Plus programs can help. For more information on building membership, see the Organizing Toolkit.

Start using the Union Plus benefits.

If you are a retired or active member of a labor union, you are automatically eligible for your union’s Union Plus benefits. You get these benefits because you are a union member — so feel free to start using them today — and let us know what you think.

You do not need to have the Union Plus Credit Card to use all the rest of the Union Plus benefits described on this site — but, of course, the Union Plus Credit Card is a great part of our family of benefits.

Each international union selects which Union Plus benefits its members are eligible to use (and local unions follow the international union selection). Click here to find out which Union Plus benefits are available to you and your members.
