Consumer Credit Expert Gerri Detweiler

Gerri Detweiler - the Union Credit Doctor - has been helping consumers find reliable answers to their credit and debt questions for 20 years.

She’s the author or co-author of a half-dozen books including Reduce Debt, Reduce Stress (Good Advice Press, 2009), Debt Collection Answers: How to Use Debt Collection Laws to Protect Your Rights, The Ultimate Credit Handbook (in print since 1993 and named one of the top five personal finance books of the year by Money magazine) and Invest In Yourself: Six Secrets to a Rich Life (which was recommended in USA Today and Kiplinger’s magazine).

Detweiler is routinely featured in national television, radio and print media having appeared in thousands of radio, television, and print news stories – including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Dateline NBC, The Today Show and many others.

She currently serves as president of Ultimate Credit Solutions Inc. She is also Credit Advisor for Credit.com, one of the Web's leading personal finance Web sites.

Detweiler has testified before Congress several times and worked on reform of the national credit reporting laws.

She has served as executive director of the non-profit consumer advocacy group Bankcard Holders of America and as policy director of The National Council of Individual Investors. She has also developed consumer education programs for MasterCard, Bank of America and others. She has served on credit reporting agency Experian’s Consumer Advisory Council and on the board of the National Council for Consumer Education.

    Help if you don’t know your union

    Your union membership dictates which Union Plus benefits you are eligible to use.

    1. What your national union’s name (not just your local number)? Scroll through the list we have to see if you recognize your union.
    2. What type of work do you do (select your occupation)?
    3. Do you have a union member card or union publication/letter that shows the name of your union? Find something with the name of your union, not just a local number.
    4. Is there a shop steward or work colleague you can ask what the name of your union is? You can even ask your human resources department to tell you the full name of your union?
    5. Do you have a Union Plus Credit Card? If so, the name and logo for your international union should appear on the front of the card.
