Are you concerned about missing a house payment or facing foreclosure because you're disabled, laid off, locked out or on strike?

Grych Family

If you've had a Union Plus home mortgage for a year or more, you're protected with our unique mortgage assistance program administered through the AFL-CIO Mutual Benefit Plan.

Union Plus Mortgage Assistance provides interest-free loans & grants to help make mortgage payments when you're disabled, unemployed, locked out or on strike. The program has provided over $10.6 million in assistance to union members.

You can apply for benefits to cover your monthly mortgage if:

  • You or your eligible cosigner are out of work due to a union-approved strike, lockout, involuntary unemployment, or disability;
  • Your income or the eligible cosigner's income is reduced by an amount equal to at least 50% of the monthly mortgage payment;
  • The income loss first occurred within the 12 months prior to application.

Documentation verifying your union membership, out-of-work status and related income loss is required at the time you apply for benefits.

To apply for Mortgage Assistance online* you'll need:

  1. A working printer to print out forms after you've completed the application
  2. An e-mail address, so we can contact you about your application
  3. Your most recent Union Plus mortgage statement
  4. The name of your union and the local number
  5. Your monthly gross (before-tax) income when you're working a full-time schedule
  6. Your monthly gross (before-tax) unemployment or disability benefits (sickness & accident, worker's compensation, etc.)
  7. The last day you worked

Help if you don’t know your union

Your union membership dictates which Union Plus benefits you are eligible to use.

  1. What your national union’s name (not just your local number)? Scroll through the list we have to see if you recognize your union.
  2. What type of work do you do (select your occupation)?
  3. Do you have a union member card or union publication/letter that shows the name of your union? Find something with the name of your union, not just a local number.
  4. Is there a shop steward or work colleague you can ask what the name of your union is? You can even ask your human resources department to tell you the full name of your union?
  5. Do you have a Union Plus Credit Card? If so, the name and logo for your international union should appear on the front of the card.

Union Plus Credit Card

Union members are automatically eligible for their union's Union Plus benefits and you do not need to be a Union Plus Credit Cardholder in order to access your union's Union Plus benefits.

But - if you are a Union Plus Credit Cardholder, you could be eligible for additional discounts.
