Latonya Rudolph is proof that it’s never too late to get a college degree or a fourth one!

School counselor contemplates career change with help of Free College Benefit

Through an academic partnership with Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC), the Union Plus Free College Benefit enables union members and their families to earn an associate degree online with no out-of-pocket cost.

"I thought it was too good to be true," recalls Rudolph, a member of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). "Who would think that you’d be able to get a free education?"

She looked up the Free College benefit on the Union Plus website. "I saw the requirements, filled out the application and submitted my financial aid information," Rudolph says. "It was a seamless process."

She's on her way toward earning an associate degree in Business Management with a certificate in Human Resources. Rudolph, a counselor in the Channelview Independent School District near Houston, Texas, also has a bachelor's degree in biology and two master's degrees in educational counseling and educational administration.

Rudolph has taken classes on subjects ranging from communications and public speaking to accounting and statistics. She says that someday she may want to open a private counseling practice.

"I could use my business management and marketing skills to help make better choices," she says.

Rudolph regularly recommends the Free College Benefit to her friends, saying "I promote it every chance I get."
