World Sight Day is a great reminder that caring for your eyes is just as important as caring for the rest of your body

World Sight Day is October 9, 2025

October 9, 2025 is World Sight Day and it’s a great reminder that caring for your eyes is just as important as caring for the rest of your body. Our partners at VSP® share four tips to keep your eyes healthy so you can maintain your vision for years to come.

Four easy tips to keep your eyes healthy

Your eyes work hard for you every day — return the favor with these simple habits to protect your vision now and for years to come.

  1. Give your eyes a break from screens: Spending hours in front of a computer, phone, or TV can cause digital eye strain — think dryness, headaches, and blurry vision. Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It’s a small change that gives your eyes big relief.
  2. Shield your eyes from the sun: Just like your skin, your eyes can be damaged by UV rays. Wear sunglasses that block 100% of UV light whenever you’re outside to lower your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Bonus: They help prevent squinting and eye fatigue, too.
  3. Eat your way to better vision: Nutrients like vitamins A, C, and E, plus omega-3 fatty acids, play a big role in eye health. Fill your plate with carrots, leafy greens, fish, and citrus fruits to give your eyes the fuel they need.
  4. Make eye exams a habit: Even if your vision feels fine, regular checkups can catch problems early — often before you notice any symptoms. Your eye doctor can screen for glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration to help keep your sight sharp.
